For first time caregiver-employers, initiating the search for the perfect caregiver is a time of trepidation and nerves. At Diamond Personnel, we are here to support and guide you each step of the way. While our expert consultants will be with you from beginning to end, we know that there may be a sense of uncertainty and apprehension going into the hiring process. We have listed a few of our personal pointers about how we deem best to tackle this very important decision.
Plan out your schedule: Many times for first time caregiver employers, the family isn’t certain of when they actually need their caregiver to work. Find out if you need support in the mornings or evenings. If you have a child who will be at home all day, incorporating that into your schedule is essential! If you have to, sit down with your spouse to pin down each other’s schedules. At this point, you will be able to determine whether or not you will need a live in or live out nanny depending on your needs. Live out nannies typically will not work split- shifts, night shifts or irregular hours. Live-in nannies tend to have much more flexibility .This leads us to our next key tip – figuring out what personality suits you best.
What Personality suits you best: Be honest and take a step back to consider your family in the “big picture.” What sort of personality should your caregiver have? What sort of energy does your family emanate? For example: You may be a rambunctious, energetic household, so would a calm, organized soul suit you best, or would an active and athletic personality feel more natural? The right chemistry is essential to making this arrangement work, therefore try to really gauge what personality and temperament would make your household run smoothly. You know your family best: weigh the needs and personalities of your children/elderly with your needs as an employer.
What duties would you like fulfilled? Equally important as the personality are the duties you require him or her to complete. Is this position childcare/eldercare-focused or should more attention be paid on household management? Or is it a 50/50 split? Decide what requires the most attention in your household, prioritize. This will ensure you hire the right person who can fufill all of the needs of your household.
Keeping these three components in mind will make the selection process much smoother. It will give you more confidence during the interview process.
